This Generosity Tree is displayed at the Council on Aging Senior Center. The original tree consisted of gold leaves and stones and was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The new tree is a replica and has the original inscriptions in gold. There are copper leaves and stones awaiting new inscriptions. Leaves and stones may be purchased by individuals or groups. The funds are used to support the COA programs and activities. For further information, please contact the COA.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We seek to create an atmosphere that acknowledges the value of human life, individually and collectively, and affirms the dignity and self-worth of the older adult. This atmosphere provides for the reaffirmation of creative potential, the power of decision making, the skills of coping and defending, and the warmth of caring, sharing, giving and supporting.
The uniqueness of the St. Bernard Council on Aging stems from its total concern for older people and its concern for the total older person. In an atmosphere of wellness, it develops strengths and encourages independence, while building interdependence and supporting unavoidable dependencies.
